Willie Francis “Frank” Hudnall Petty, 91, of Bay Minette, Alabama, peacefully passed away at home with her daughter and son-in-law by her side on February 18, 2024.

Willie was born on April 29, 1932, in Baton Rouge, LA. She was a graduate of Louisiana State University and a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, and later served as the president of the Delta Gamma Alumnae Association.

In 1956, she wed the love of her life, Don Petty, and was happily married for 59 years. Willie was a beloved 3rd grade elementary school teacher. Together they raised their daughter Rhonda Lynn Petty. Willie was a devoted homemaker and office manager for her husband’s automotive businesses. Upon retirement, Don and Willie moved to the Pine Grove Community of Bay Minette, AL to be near Rhonda.

Willie was a dedicated member of First Methodist Church in Bay Minette, AL. One of her passions was volunteering for the White Christmas program. She was quite tech-savvy and used her knowledge to add interest, flair, and information to the church website. Additionally, she served as president of the Guild Ladies Circle, and was an enthusiastic member of the Red Hat Society. Her red hat collection is beyond compare.

Willie can only be described as pure joy personified. She was known for her kind heart, sweet demeanor, and infectious smile. She had a knack for making everyone she met feel special. She especially loved children and took great joy in spending time with them. To know her was to truly love her.

Willie lived an active life filled with many hobbies and interests. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and was known for her beautiful and extensive decorations. A snappy dresser, Willie never left the house without matching earrings, socks, and shoes! She was a bird enthusiast and delighted in watching the hummingbirds as they visited her backyard. She took great joy in her flowers and was an expert baker. You could always count on Willie to bring a delicious cake to any event.

Willie is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Rhonda Petty Hutchinson and husband Jeff, along with five grandchildren: Jeff Jr. (Jamie), Ryan (Brook), Kristina (Caitlin), Cole and Mayson. She is survived by nieces and nephews: Vicki Lynn Thompson, Bobbie Joyce Hill (Wayne), Ron Gunter, Robin Jeannine Jones (Veijo), Cary Petty (Dianna), Gwen Petty Bowles (Bob), Jane S. Petty, Cindy Petty Lemoine (Bill), Steve Petty (Laurie) and numerous great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by lifelong friends, Sue Robinson, Amanda Stanley, Becky Marceaux (Brent) and their children.

Willie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Petty, parents Hughes Bennett Sr. and Frank Dillard Hudnall, sister Sarah Joyce Hudnall Gunter, brother Hughes Bennett (Benny) Hudnall, Jr., nephew Glen “Buck” Petty, and lifelong friend Douglass Robinson.

 A Celebration of Life will be held at First Methodist Church, 120 W. 2nd St, Bay Minette, AL.

Visitation will take place on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 10:30am, followed by the memorial service at 12:30pm. Interment will begin at 2:00pm at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 34904 Alabama Hwy. 225, Spanish Fort, AL. Norris Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
