William “Bill” Arthur Mateikat, Jr., age 86, born in Brunswick, New Jersey and a resident of Bay Minette, AL died Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at William F. Green State Veterans Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur Mateikat, Sr. and Vivian Virginia Wolfe Mateikat; two sisters, Judy Shipp, Patricia Patterson, and son, Darrell Hill.
Bill retired after 27 years as a police officer with Bay Minette Police Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mattie Mae Crutchfield Mateikat of Bay Minette, AL; his children, Johnny (Holly) Mateikat of Gulf Breeze, FL, Bonnie (Rick) Haynes of Prattville, AL, Billy (Selena) Mateikat of Montgomery, AL, James (Maria) Mateikat of Bay Minette, AL, Michael (Janel) Hill of Robertsdale, AL, Terry (Tim) Hill of Pensacola, FL, Steven (Christy) Hill of Robertsdale, AL, Daughter-in-law Michelle Hill of Robertsdale, AL, and Melanie (Joey) Williams of Bay Minette, AL; two sisters, Donna Mateikat Holmes of Bay Minette, AL and Lori Mateikat Perkins of Biloxi, MS; a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
A committal service will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort with Pastor Randall Short officiating the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to William F. Green State Veterans Home, 300 Faulkner Drive, Bay Minette, AL 36507.
