Mrs. Veta Roberta Williams Skipper, lovingly known as “MawMaw,” passed away peacefully at her home in the Pine Grove Community of Bay Minette, Alabama, on May 25, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on January 7, 1939, she was a woman of deep faith, strong convictions, and unwavering love for her family, Mrs. Skipper built a life centered around hard work, generosity, and caring for others.
Mrs. Skipper believed that love was an action word, and she was never afraid of hard work. She spent much of her life working with her hands and making a career from her sewing talents. A retired seamstress, she became known for her skill in sewing, hemming, and alterations. Beyond her regular work, she was also known for her entrepreneurial spirit, baking hundreds of red velvet cakes during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, tending gardens and selling fresh vegetables, caring for the elderly, and even operating a flower shop for a period of time.
Mrs. Skipper trusted deeply in her faith, believed strongly in the power of prayer, and attended church whenever her health allowed.
More than anything, Mrs. Skipper was devoted to her family. Her home was always open, welcoming, and full of love. Family and friends knew they could come to her for anything, and she would freely give whatever she had to help someone in need. She was independent, strong willed, and never lacked opinions or the willingness to share them. Those who knew her best will remember her strength, honesty, resilience, and fierce love for the people she cared about most. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Charles Mitchell Skipper; daughter, Roberta Skipper Jones; son, Joseph (Sherene) Skipper; grandson, William Jones; granddaughters, LaShonda Richerson and Stacy (Jonathan) Boyington; great grandchildren, Braiden Richerson, Willow Richerson, Jeremiah Boyington, and Michael Boyington; brothers, Jimmy Williams and Larry (Debbie) Williams; sisters in law, Marlice Williams, Joanne Black, Kathy Lee, and Sandy Skipper; brother in law, O’Neal Hadley; as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gavin and Vada Lee Harvill Williams; son in law, Johnny Jones; sister and brother in law, Lucille and Bud Salter; brothers and sisters in law, Richard and Addie Mae Williams, Hannis and Voncile Williams, Lonnie and Martha Williams; brothers, Arthur Williams, Rufus Williams, and Earl Williams; sisters, Ruby Lee Williams, Eva Mae Williams, Magline Weaver, and Urla Lee Hadley; sister in law, Viola Williams; brothers in law, James Skipper, Larry Skipper, James Lee and Edward Black; and sisters in law, Florence Skinner and Frances Gantt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Vision Ministries Church of God with Bishop Alan Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at Vision Ministries Church of God.
Though her family’s hearts are heavy, they find comfort in knowing the legacy of her love, strength, generosity, and faith will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.
