Tommy Joe Gunter, age 82, born in Decatur, TN and a resident of Bay Minette, AL died Monday, May 4, 2026 at William F. Green State Veterans Home. He was a retired conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during Korea.
He is survived by his children, Patrick W, (Michelle) Gunter of Bay Minette, AL, Teresa D. (Chuck) Gunter Cameron of Ooltewah, TN and Jacqueline (Rob) Stewart of Soddy Daisy, TN; two brothers, David R. (Millie) Gunter of Cleveland, TN and Gary “Gopher” Gunter of Athens, TN; one sister, Paula (John) Guffey of Athens, TN and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Harrison Gunter; three brothers, Leroy Gunter, Jackie Gunter and Ross Gunter and four sisters, Mary Sue Land, Margaret Hale, Rebecca “Becky” Porter and Faye Gunter.
Mr. Gunter will be laid to rest next to his wife in Cleveland, TN per his wishes.
