Silas William "Bill" Holmes

Silas William “Bill” Holmes, age 76, born in Tensaw, AL and a resident of Atmore, AL died Thursday, May 11, 2023 at his residence. He was a retired water and wastewater operator for Poarch Creek Indians where he received operator of the year award in 2011 and many other service metals over the years. He was also a retired Truck Driver for Peturis Trucking and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during Vietnam. Bill was an avid bowler with many leagues and bowling friends.

He is survived by his wife, Flossie Hadley Holmes of Atmore, AL; his children, Kim (Shon) Coleman of Bay Minette, AL, Toni (Les) Phillips of Rabun and Cindi (David) Hill of Bay Minette, AL; one brother, Michael Quinley of Foley, AL; two sisters, Molinda McLennon of Repton and Terry Quinley of Orange Beach, AL; seven grandchildren, Britney (Taylor) Wall, Trey (Victoria) Hill, Aaron (Kimberly) Phillips, Brandi Homan, Bradley (Allison) Homan, Leann Coleman and Jarrod Phillips; eight great grandchildren, Jaci, James, Ryder, Jestin, Conner, Jacob, Oliver and Noah and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Holmes; his mother, Nora Quinley; his stepfather, Henry Quinley; two sisters, Brenda Causey and Delores Kirch and two brothers, Bruce Holmes and Jesse “Jiggs” Gregson.

A private graveside service will be held at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Bennett officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday, May 14, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Ganey, Chris Ganey, Jody Ganey and Gary Ganey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute, 650 Clinic Drive, TRP III, Suite 1500, Mobile, AL 36688.
