United States Navy Master Chief Petty Officer (MCPON) Shawn Bartlett “Bart” Peaden – EAWS (ret.), born January 10, 1953, closed his eyes to this earthly home and opened his eyes to Jesus on November 19, 2025, at the age of 72. A devoted man of faith, gifted songwriter, and loving husband, father, and grandfather, Bart dedicated his life to serving God, his country, and his family.
Bart was born in Panama City, Florida and graduated from Baldwin County High School, Class of 1972. At the age of 19, he joined the United States Navy and served his country honorably for 30 years, with 20 years of service being in active combat. His military career took him to every corner of the world and earned him over 60 medals and commendations, including five Meritorious Service Medals and four Navy Commendation Medals.
In recent years, Bart enjoyed retirement by fishing, traveling with Cheryl and his children and grandchildren, spending time in the mountains of North Alabama, watching football, and taking care of his beloved dogs. Nothing brought Bart more joy, though, than sharing a cup of coffee and a story with his friends and family.
Bart is survived by his wife, Cheryl Wiggins Peaden; his children Sandra Michelle (Kendall) Billiot of Berea, Kentucky, Sarah Nicole Peaden of Bay Minette, Alabama, Rachel Elaine (Devon) Long of Silverhill, Alabama, Sommer Fleming (Charles) Cotton of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Daniel Fleming, of Bay Minette, Alabama; his cherished grandchildren, Chyann Billiot, Harper and Rowan Bryant, Raymie and Jamie Long, and Charles Lewis “C.J.” Cotton, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Bartlett Peaden and Lynda Lanton Peaden, of Bay Minette, Alabama.
While flowers are appreciated, memorial donations can also be made to City Hope Church – Kingdom Builders Fund, 29964 St Basil Street, Daphne, AL 36526 or Vision Ministries Church, 47820 Rabun Road, Bay Minette, AL 36507.
A service to honor Bart will be held at the Norris Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Bishop Alan Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Norris Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Charles Cotton, Charles Lewis "C.J." Cotton, Jr., Daniel Fleming, Luke Gaiters, Devon Long and Donald Wiggins. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Ealum and George Hornady.
