Ronald Durant Obituary

Ronald Eugene Durant, age 82 born in Bay Minette, Alabama, (Crossroads Community) a resident of Dallas, Georgia passed away on Thursday May 25, 2023, while spending time with family and friends in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Ron is survived by his son, Ward Durant (Allison); two grandchildren; Claire Speaks (Brett) and Catherine Durant.   Three sisters Gloria Hart, Linda Martin (Gene) & Nelda Nazary (Jimmy Dale).

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, DeAnn G. Durant, brothers Joseph C. Durant & Larry D. Durant and his parents Joseph Clifton Durant and Jesse Lou Walker.

Ron was a straightforward man and was blessed with a servant’s heart.  In his work and service to our country he traveled the world working, serving, and sharing his faith and values to those around him.

Ron first enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard at age 16.  Soon after his high school graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force and would have a distinguished career for over 20 years retiring at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.  Ron continued to serve his country supporting the Air Force Reserve Command as Base Transportation Officer for Dobbins ARB until his final retirement in 2013.

In his “spare” time he supported and lead several charitable organizations that supported our communities at the local and national levels.  Ron was a Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Texas for over 56 years.  Ron was a charter member and officer of Allatoona Charities Inc., He also belonged to and supported the American Legion; Dobbins ARB Square & Compass Club; Dobbins ARB Sojourners, National Sojourners Heroes 76; Cobb County Scottish Rite Association and the North Paulding High School Marching Band Booster Program as well many others.  The list is too long to mention.

As typical of Ron, regarding his remembrance, humbly he thought an appropriate epitaph could be “He did his job, tried hard to live a faithful and quality life”.

The family will receive family and friends Saturday June 3, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Durant Chapel Baptist Church, at which time funeral services will commence with Dr. Henry Cox officiating.  Burial will follow at Durant Chapel Cemetery.

The following have graciously agreed to be pallbearers:   Brett Speaks, Jeremey Summerlin, Tanner Nazary, Damon Carr, Mike Fulmer, and Bill Connor.

For those who are unable to pay their respects at the funeral service, we are hosting a Celebration of Life event on June 17, 2023, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.  at the Senators Ridge Clubhouse: 99 Senators Ridge Drive, Dallas GA. 30132.
