Raymond Melton Obituary

Raymond Melton, age of 91 of Stapleton, Alabama, passed on April 2, 2024. Raymond was born January 17, 1933 and lived with his family in Stapleton. He retired from Baldwin County Highway Department after 28 years of service.

Raymond served in the National Guard then volunteered for active duty with the United States Army in the Korean War. He turned 18 years old as a machine gunner on the battlefield in Korea. He returned from the war and met his wife of 69 years, Celia Irene Melton. Together they built a life and raised their only child, Donald Raymond Melton. Raymond’s lifelong focus was his family. He loved his mother deeply, invested in the lives of his brothers and sisters, his world revolved around his wife and son, loved his daughter-in-law like his own child, and doted on his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Others consider him their grandfather as he heavily invested his love and time in their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents Pat and Pearl Melton; his wife, Celia Irene Melton and siblings Randall Melton, Dolphus Melton, Cecil Melton, Irene Melton, Roberta Ford, Earl Melton and Orie Melton. He leaves behind his son, Donald Melton (Patty). He was blessed with two grandchildren; Cindy Paul (Richard) and Jonathan Melton (Jennifer). Great-grandchildren, Abbi, Josie, Thomas, and Jasper enjoyed spending time with him at his home in Stapleton. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will miss him.

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Stapleton Community Cemetery behind Stapleton Methodist Church.

Service will be led by his grandson in love, Richard Paul. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Melton, Grey Horton, Loren Powers, Clifton Wilson, and Russell Smith.
