Raymond Johnson Obituary

Raymond H. "Red" Johnson, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2026, at his home in Pascagoula, Mississippi, following a brief illness. He was born on January 30, 1943, in Bay Minette, Alabama, to Hestle Henry and Lorena Johnson.  Red was a man defined by his faith, his service, and his deep love for family.

In 1967, Red answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. He served with great distinction, earning a Purple Heart and numerous commendations for his bravery on the battlefield.

Upon returning home, Red dedicated 43 years to Ingalls Shipbuilding as a skilled sheet metal mechanic. Even in retirement, he remained active, finding joy in hunting, tinkering with old cars, and spending time in his shop.

A devoted member of Arlington Baptist Church for over 40 years, Red’s welcoming spirit was well-known to his congregation. He served as the principal greeter for more than two decades, ensuring everyone who walked through the doors felt like family.

Red is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Linda Faye Cox Johnson; his son, Gregory Hestle Johnson (Sherie); his sister, Gloria Ann Wallace (Billy); and his cherished granddaughters, Tiffany Nicole Johnson and Jessica Diann Johnson Jackson (Houston). He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Claire Elizabeth Ardis and Declan Luca Jackson, along with several brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, and a niece, nephews, and extended relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nora Godwin; and his brother, Claude Johnson.

A Service will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, 11:00am, at the committal shelter of Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 34904 State Highway 225, Spanish Fort, Alabama.  The pallbearers will be his nephews and friends.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Guiden International in memory of him.
