Patricia "Pat" Jo (Gibson) Bounds

Patricia “Pat” Gibson Bounds, born December 28, 1944, in Meridian,  Mississippi, was a long-time resident of Bay Minette, Alabama.  She was a devoted wife, sister, loving mother to three sons, and the adoring grandmother to four granddaughters and two grandsons. Affectionately known by many as “Miss Pat,” she was always welcoming and gracious with her special kind of generosity and love.

A woman of strong will, determination, and wit, she was willing to share her wisdom and encouragement with others.  Her generous spirit was an example to so many and a legacy to her family.  Pat devoted her professional life to education, helping birth a new community college that would be her life’s work, and her second family, for the next forty-four years.  She was a dedicated teacher who shared her passion for learning with thousands of students through the years.  No matter your life’s circumstances, where you were from, or whatever your dreams, you found a caring teacher, compassionate advocate, advisor, and friend in Miss Pat.

Her home was always open to family and friends, where you were often greeted with a hug and a delicious meal.  Over the years, she spent many hours at the ballpark and dance recitals, cheering for her children, grandchildren, and their friends. Pat was always proud of her Mississippi roots with friendships from childhood that endured over the decades and cherished her small town upbringing.  Pat was a voracious reader, often willing to engage in conversations about current events and controversial topics.  She enjoyed staying connected through social media and being able to continue sharing her love and support to many.  Through her difficult and persistent health challenges, Pat always exhibited enduring strength, grace, and a love of life.

She is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Mildred Gibson.

She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband, Lauren Dale Bounds, Sr., her sons Jay Martindale (Jennifer), Jon Martindale (Bien), Lauren Bounds, Jr. (Miranda), her grandchildren Madeline, Olivia, Patricia, Sarah, Brady, and Lake.  Her sister Jane Townsend and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and an extended host of Bounds, Martindale, DeWeese, and Walker family members.  

A service will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. Visitation will begin at noon, followed by the service at 2PM to celebrate her life at the First United Methodist Church in Bay Minette, Alabama with Reverend Marty Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.

Although the family will accept flowers they suggest memorial contributions be made to the North Baldwin Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 190, Bay Minette, AL 36507.
