Mildred Cole Lee, born in Northport, Alabama to Thomas A. & Ottie P. Cole, peacefully passed away on November 1st at her home in Stockton, Alabama at the age of 91.
Mildred was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard E. Lee, Sr., her son Arthur C. Lee, sister Martha Ferrel and her brother Thomas C. Cole. She is survived by her daughter Melissa R. Price and her husband Darren B. Price of Pensacola, FL and her son Richard E. Lee, Jr. and his wife Frances M. Lee of Cary, NC. She is also survived by grandsons Richard E. Lee, III and Darren B. Price Jr. and by many loving nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Mildred obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Livingston University and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Alabama. She went on to teach typing and shorthand at Stockton School and it was during one of her daily commutes to work that she had a flat tire and the love of her life, Richard, came to her assistance. Though they were a house divided by their Alabama and Auburn college football alliances, their emergency roadside encounter marked the beginning of their fifty love-filled years together!
After many years of teaching, and while raising their children, Mildred joined her beloved husband in their family businesses.
Mildred was a loving and caring mother and grandmother, a loyal friend and a community supporter. She loved spending time in the kitchen especially during the Christmas Season baking cookies and her unforgettably delicious apple dumplings, and preparing sweet treats to share with family and friends. During Easter, she prepared for the children’s Easter egg hunts with the Ladies Shriners Auxiliary and for Halloween she prepared bags of candy for the children.
As a member of the Cottage Hill Presbyterian Church in Stockton, she loved singing her favorite hymns: Now I Belong to Jesus, He Lives, It is Well with My Soul, and Amazing Grace with the congregation.
She and her late husband Richard, instilled in their three children the importance of family and spent many memorable vacations together including their yearly trips to the sunny beaches of Gulf Shores, Dauphin Island and Ft. Morgan.
The family invites you to join them for a graveside service on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 2pm at the Stockton Memorial Cemetery on Highway 59.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Stockton Volunteer Fire Department (PO Box 8 Stockton, AL 36579) or to the Shriners’ Transportation Fund.
