Mike Jerry Allen Austin, age 57, born in Coburg, Germany and a resident of Bay Minette, AL died Thursday, October 14, 2021 at North Baldwin Infirmary. Mike was a Godly man who never met a stranger. He grew up as a military brat, graduating in 1982 from Bamberg American High School. He retired after 35 years as a Corrections Officer at Holmon Prison for the State of Alabama. He served on the softball board for the City of Bay Minette, and he coached city league football, softball and soccer for many years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a volunteer for the Baldwin Baptist Disaster Relief Team. He served on the board for the Pine Grove Cemetery. Throughout his travels he created countless bonds. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, daddy, papa, uncle, coach and friend.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dawn “Shelly” Austin of Bay Minette, AL; two daughters, Denise Austin of Pine Grove and Dana (Jeremy) Austin of Bay Minette, AL; his mother, Gisela Smith of White House Fork; his father, Jerry (Robin) Austin of Michigan; four brothers, Richard Smith of White House Fork, Paul (Lynn) Smith of Bay Minette, AL, Jason Austin of Michigan and Donald Austin of Michigan; three sisters, Dodie Putney of Michigan, Kelly Austin-Moseng of Pennsylvania and Mikayla Chase of Michigan; three grandchildren, Autumn Hardy, Austin Hardy and Avery Hodges and his beloved dog, Willie.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Harvey “Buddy” Smith; his mother-in-law, Jean Daniel Mosley and a nephew, Chase Daniel.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Reverend Willie Harris, Reverend Chris Summers and Reverend Mark Daniel officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 18, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Home.
