Lillian "Tootie" White Obituary

Lillian Marie "Tootie" Grosskopf White - A native of Whistler and a longtime resident of Bay Minette, peacefully passed away at home in Birmingham with her family and pets around her on Saturday, July 6, 2019. She was 81 years old.

Tootie was a graduate of Vigor High School and attended Howard College, now Samford University. She was trained as a radiology technician and worked at several hospitals in Mobile and Baldwin County. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bay Minette, where she taught Kindergarten for many years. An excellent cook and accomplished baker, Tootie was famous for her decorated pound cakes and her Christmas sugar cookies. She was very creative and could make any superhero costume her son could dream up. She loved to fish and visit the Smoky Mountains. She enjoyed taking vacations with her sister, Mary, and their families. She loved Auburn football and was excited to attend a game in 2018. During the last 18 months of her life, she visited many restaurants in Birmingham searching for the perfect hamburger in what came to be known as The Great Hamburger Tour.

She is survived by her son, Lloyd Hugh (Heather) White, Jr. of Birmingham; her brother-in-law, John Smith, of Mobile; her sister-in-law, Barbara Grosskopf, of Vero Beach, FL; nieces, nephews, and friends; her cats, Natasha and Zoe; and her dog, Nash.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Hugh White, Sr.; her infant daughter, Beth; her grandparents who raised her, Will and Lillie Smith; her parents, Frances Hackett and Theodore Grosskopf, Sr.; her sister, Mary Smith; her brother, Theodore “Buddy” Grosskopf, Jr.; and her step-brothers, Danny Hackett and Jimmy Hackett.

The family would like to thank John and Kathy Maddox; Arden and Bev Jenkins, Willard and Betty Harbin, and her church family at First Baptist Church; as well as Wanda Durden; Gabrielle, Shawn, Rachel, George, Christine, and Pam from Your Choice Senior Care in Hoover; Velvet, Matthew, Dr. Gregory Mayberry, and the team at Amedysis Hospice of Birmingham; Roger Aubrey and the staff at Eastern Shore Physical Therapy; and the doctors, nurses and staff at UAB HouseCalls, Mobile Infirmary, North Baldwin Infirmary, and Oakwood Center for Living for their care and support during Tootie’s illnesses.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Reverend Daniel Dykes officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. service at the First Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Ray Eubanks, Roger Aubrey, John Maddox, III, Chad Harrelson, Mark Messick, David Weatherford, Hamilton Weatherford and Jonathan Weatherford. Honorary pallbearers will be John Maddox, Jr. John Smith, Emerson Gray, Willard Harbin and Arden Jenkins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Benevolent Fund at First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1628, Bay Minette, AL 36507.
