Lavon Bell Obituary

Earnest Lavon Bell, affectionately known by many as “Pop,” “Dunk,” and “Uncle Bon,” passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026. He loved his close and extended family beyond words, and countless memories of camping trips, family gatherings, and shared laughter now comfort those who mourn his passing. He was born in Range, AL to Ernest and Mary Alice Bell.

A skilled woodworker, Lavon worked faithfully in numerous roles throughout his career before retiring from Degussa Corporation in 2002. In 1965, he built his home in Bay Minette, where he lived, worked, and welcomed family and friends for six decades. His home was a place of warmth, hospitality, and steady love.

Lavon was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Bay Minette, baptized there in 1967. He also served his country with honor as a veteran of the Army National Guard during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Lavon was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Vivian Elaine Bell; and by his brothers and sisters Horace Bell, Lindsey Bell, Melvene Dickman, Doug Bell, Carol Sue Bell, and Lilian Pierce.

He is survived by his daughter, Terri Bell Price and her husband, Philip, and by his son, Gregory Bell. Lavon is also survived by his grandchildren, Abbey and Joshua Greer; Jared Price; Charlee Price; Christian and Kayla Bell; and Brandon and Maribeth Elliott. He is further survived by two great-grandchildren, Aubree Price-Greer and Ava Lee Elliott, who brought him great joy.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Dr. Henry Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at Norris Funeral Home.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Deaconess Hospice Services for their compassionate care during Lavon’s final weeks. Special thanks are also given to Barbara Boyd of Lucedale for her kindness and support.

Lavon Bell will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a loyal friend, and a man whose quiet strength and gentle spirit blessed all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Benevolence Fund in Lavon Bells memory, P.O. Box 1628, Bay Minette, AL 36507.
