Kathryn “Kay” Sue Finney Stewart, age 82, grew up in Chaffee, Missouri and was a longtime resident of Bay Minette, AL. She passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Kay was a retired educator with the Baldwin County Board of Education. She graduated from Chaffee High School. While getting her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education at William Carey University, she met the love of her life, Eugene Stewart from Bay Minette. She later received her master’s degree in education from Troy State University.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. William Ozro Finney and Mardell Agatha Finney, her loving husband, Arthur Eugene Stewart, brother, William “Bill” Warner, and sister, Betty Jean Lampley.
She is survived by two brothers, Walt (Betty) Finney and Norm “Tyke” (Nancy) Finney; her children who she adored, Tracy (Kevin) Boutwell, Michael (Angela) Stewart and Todd (Carla) Stewart; five grandsons, Mason (Danielle) Boutwell, Adam (Kristen) Boutwell, Thomas Finney Stewart, Cooper Douglas Stewart, Miles Arthur Stewart and one great grandson, Brayden Christopher Boutwell.
Kay loved her church family and served many roles in New Life Baptist Church. Some of these roles included church clerk, Sunday School teacher and church WMU Director. She truly had a passion for helping others. Kay traveled the area speaking to different groups on topics such as human trafficking, Annie Armstrong and Lottie Moon. She served on several mission trips and was actively involved in the Baldwin Baptist Disaster Relief team. Kay served as a member of the Alabama WMU Board of Trustees from 2011 - 2019 and as the Recording Secretary for Alabama WMU from 2015-2019. She was an inspiration to all that knew her and had the privileged of listening to her spread the gospel through devotions and bible studies.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 26, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at New Life Baptist Church in Bay Minette, AL with Reverend Otis Thames officiating. Burial will follow at New Life Baptist Cemetery.
A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at New Life Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Nic Gray, Adam Scarborough, John Byrd, Michael Gray, John Bohannon and Brian Aaron. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Richerson, James Glasgow and Arnold Thomaston.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Community Hospice staff.
