Joseph Dale Phillipe, age 77, a Christian conservative, life-long resident of Bay Minette, AL passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025 at his home surrounded by loving family. Dale was born June 9, 1947 in Atmore, AL, the son of Hiram Joseph Phillips and Georgia Solomon Phillips, he grew up in Little River. He graduated from high school in 1965 and joined the National Guard in 1966. Dale served in the National Guard until he was honorably discharged in 1971.
Dale married his love, Linda Martin Phillips in 1993. For the next 32 years, they would remain inseparable; with Dale believing he would be happiest if he and she were the only people in the world. Over the 32 years of their marriage, they created a loving family with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who Dale enjoyed spoiling.
Dale worked in construction, where for over 45 years, his talent, knowledge and craftsmanship was sought by countless families and business owners. Throughout his career he was responsible for both residential and commercial construction all over the southeast. His reputation as a builder was respected and he was consulted by many in his community for his expertise on various projects.
Second to his family, Dale especially enjoyed Alabama Football, hunting, cooking, vegetable gardening, and RV’ing with his love, Linda. He cherished his time with family, discussing politics, Poker, shooting pool and a good cigar. Dale was always willing to dispense his knowledge and wisdom to all who were in need. He was a member of the Jaycees, where he served as president.
Remaining to cherish Dale’s memory are his wife, Linda Martin Phillips; four daughters, Kendra Phillips Edlin, Paige Phillips Hornady, Taura Cheatham (Rob) Johansen and Leslie Cheatham (Wayne) Mackey; ten grandchildren, Austin (Miranda) Hornady, Konnor (Tatum) Edlin, Dalton (Haley) Hornady, Paul (Diamond) Mackey, Kassidy Edlin, Gabe Mackey, Karson Edlin, Hannah Johansen, Carli Johansen and Wyatt Mackey; six great grandchildren, Dawson Hornady, Hudsyn Hornady, Oakleigh Hornady, Owen Johansen, Nova Eugene, Demeigh Hornady and Remi Mackey; brother, Mike (Jenny) Phillips; sisters, Clara (Mitchell) Taylor and Delilah (Billy) League; brother, Doug Martin, nephews, Brandon Piper and Jeremy Phillips and numerous great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Phillips and Georgia Phillips and his brother, Steve Phillips.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 14, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Reverend Henry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Phillips Cemetery in Little River.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 14, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. service at Norris Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be some of his grandchildren, Austin Hornady, Konnor Edlin, Dalton Hornady, Karson Edlin, Wyatt Mackey and Hannah Johansen. Honorary pallbearers will be Roland Howell, Junius Long, Billy Owens, Leslie Tunstill and Milton Wilson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
