John Berlin Sims, age 95, born in Jones Mill, known as Frisco City, AL and a resident of Bay Minette, AL died Saturday, June 5, 2021 at his residence. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II and retired as a First Sergeant with the U.S. Army. He was most noted for his tenure at the Fort Beveridge Armory in Bay Minette.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Trawick Sims of Bay Minette, AL; two sons, Terry Sims of New York City, NY and Mitchell Lamar (Lisa) Sims of Elberta, AL; grandchildren, Rebecca Kate (Corey) Noe, Chelsea (Micah) Smith, Haley Sims and Jordan (Stone) Collins and great grandchildren, Elsie Anna Noe, Henry Noe, Clyde Noe, Sadie Jane Noe, Scout Smith, Tanner Smith and Tilly Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Sadie Sims; his first wife, Alsie Wiggins Sims and siblings, Curtis Sims, Marvin Sims, Bobbie Lou Wright, Benton Sims, Mary Ethel Sims and Betty Blanton.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Chip Starnes and Dr. Henry Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 7, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Corey Noe, Micah Smith, Nick Anagnostopoulos, Stone Collins, Ed Tunnel and Robert Sims. Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin Fleming, Taylor Rider, Paul Rider, Adolph Ryan, Jesse Westmeyer and Brian Liam.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1628, Bay Minette, AL 36507.
