John Long Obituary

John C. Long passed away Friday, November 1, 2019. He was born February 24, 1932, in North Baldwin County and resided there most of his life. He was the son of Calvin J. Long and Connie Weekley Long. On March 14, 1959, he married Catherine Mary Hamm at the Central Presbyterian Church, Mobile, Alabama. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church for many years. He served as deacon, an elder, and a trustee. He was an active member of the Society of the Cincinnati and was past president of the General Calvez Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.

He was a graduate of Baldwin County High School and attended the University of Alabama, the University of South Alabama, and held a master of science in secondary education from Troy University. He taught in the Baldwin County School System for 25 years before his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was very active in Veterans Day affairs.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Long.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Reverend Keith Cardwell officiating. Burial will follow at Guy’s Chapel United Methodist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday November 4, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service at Norris Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the North Baldwin Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 190, Bay Minette, AL 36507
