Jerry Stewart Obituary

Jerry Carter Stewart, a man of unwavering integrity, patriotism, and love for his family, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023 at the age of 80. A pillar of his community, Jerry leaves behind a legacy of honor, service, and dedication to those he cherished and an immense love for his Lord, Jesus Christ. 

Born in Fairhope, Alabama on October 12, 1943, Jerry grew up instilled with strong values of hard work, honesty, and respect. These values guided him throughout his life, shaping him into a man of exceptional character. Jerry's patriotism was evident when he proudly joined the United States Marine Corps, eager to serve his country in Vietnam. His dedication and bravery earned him the admiration of his fellow Marines, and he served with distinction, embodying the Corps' motto of "Semper Fidelis" – Always Faithful.

Jerry was a devoted father, always present for his children's milestones and providing a loving and supportive environment. He was their confidant, their mentor, and their biggest cheerleader. His love for his family extended beyond his immediate circle, embracing his extended family and friends with open arms.

Jerry Stewart was a man who left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come, reminding us of the power of honor, service, and love.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sister Helen Fretwell Stewart of Perdido, AL; his children, Carla (Mike) Bystricky of Silverhill, AL, Thad (Milena Downey) Stewart of Mobile, AL, Tammy (Mark) Collie of Nashville, TN and April (Billy) Roberts of Silverhill, AL; bonus daughter, Marie (Curtis) Joiner of Bay Minette, AL; sister, Barbara Sims of Rabun; grandsons, Seth Coleman, Brett Phillips, Brennen Stewart, Michael Bystricky, Reed Roberts and Nathan Collie; bonus grandson, J.D. Joiner; granddaughters, Leah Richardson, Whitney Mullins, Payton Coleman, Alyson Lynd, Logan Johnson and Reece Roberts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmanuel Owen and Sarah Virginia Hadley Stewart and a brother, Cakarrey Stewart.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fretwell Tabernacle Church with Reverend Danny Ray Taylor and Reverend Harrison Steege officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Seth Coleman, Brett Phillips, Brennen Stewart, Michael Bystricky, Reed Roberts and Aiden Richardson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made in the form of charitable donations to MTSU Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center, Box 74, 1301 East Main Street, Murfreesboro, TN 37132.
