James Woodie "JW" Stewart

James Woodie “JW” Stewart, age 85, a native and resident of the Rabun Community died Monday, November 14, 2022 at his residence. He was a retired truck driver and also retired from the U.S. Army National Guard. He loved attending church, hunting, fishing and never met a stranger. He loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Voncille “Bonnie” Brown Stewart of Rabun; his children, James “Jimmy” (Caroline) Stewart of Castleberry, FL, Shama (Malcom) Thompson of Rabun, Jackie Hadley of Rabun, Stacey (Mitchell) Lanham of Rabun and Tracey Wasdin of Rabun; two brothers, James D. Stewart of Rabun and Douglas Stewart of Bay Minette, AL; one sister, Virginia Woods of Fairhope, AL; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Dougal Stewart; his mother, Viola Long Knapp; a son, Ronald Stewart and two brothers, Curtis Stewart and Laurice “LC” Stewart.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 18, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at New Providence Baptist Church with Reverend Henry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at New Providence Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 17, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. until service time at New Providence Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Eric Thompson, Gavin Thompson, Dustin Pfeffer, Brendon Lanham, Daniel Stewart and David Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be Mitchell Lanham, Jason Warnock and Malcolm Thompson.
