James Oren Rider

James Oren Rider, age 90, born in Loxley, AL and a resident of Stapleton, AL died Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Thomas Hospital. He retired from Dairy Fresh where he worked in maintenance.

He is survived by two sons, James Curtis (Teresa) Rider of Obrien, FL and Robin Rider of Ashford, AL; three brothers, Dennis (Donna) Rider of Stapleton, AL, Bill (Pam) Rider of Stapelton, AL and Eddie (Sherrie) Rider of Atmore, AL; four sisters, Maxine (Jim) Smith of Virginia, Mildred (Edmond) Jerkins of Pigeon Forge, TN, Debbie (Sonny) Fogg and Edna Mae (Glen) Jerkins of Rosinton; four stepchildren, Thomas (Shannon) Raines of Georgetown, KY, Charlie Raines of Stapleton, AL, Penelope DeMont of Stapleton, AL and Michelle Merchant; grandson, Sean Curtis Rider and ten step grandchildren, Joshua Sulivan, Jamie Raines, Ivy Raines, Tommy Raines, Jr., Timothy Wood, Dustin Burroughs, Zack Burroughs, Destiny Leggett, Jaylen Williams and Journee Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oren Morgan “Sugar Babe” and Edna Earl Myrick Rider; his wife, Nancy Rider; two brothers and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery with Reverend Dennis Bell officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
