James Moody Obituary

James Harold Moody, age 89, was born in Wadley, AL and died Monday, May 30, 2022 at Thomas Hospital. He was a resident of Bay Minette, AL

James was the youngest of 12 children. He attended Cragford Elementary and graduated from Lineville High School in Lineville, AL. He enlisted in the US Navy just before turning 18 and served from 1950-1953. While in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Newport News Heavy Cruiser where he was the ship's Bugler and worked in navigation.

He later began working for the Alabama Highway Department for 30+ years as an inspector which brought him to live in Bay Minette, AL. He met a young school teacher named Dorthy here and never left. James and Dorthy married on June 4,1965 and had 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. They would have been married 57 years on
their next anniversary and he would have turned 90 in just a few weeks.  James is a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Bay Minette and is a former longtime member of Southside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorthy Nell Moody of Bay Minette, AL; one son, Michael James. (Dana) Moody of Missouri City, TX; three daughters: Angela (Donald) Greenlee of Spanish Fort, AL, Kimberly (Robert) Heard of Carrollton, AL, Melissa (Jerry) Bousard, of Daphne,
AL; thirteen grandchildren: Anthony Greenlee, Andrew (Laura) Moody, Melanie (Tyler) Vaughan, Adam Greenlee, Alana (Ben) Rowland, Jonathan Moody, Seth Moody, Emily Heard, Michaela Moody, Abby Greenlee, William James Heard, Veronica Bousard, and Natalie Bousard; and two great granddaughters, Sophia and Elisabeth (Ellie); and one sister, Mae Sheets of LaGrange, GA.

He is preceded in death by his son, David Harold Moody, his parents Rastus O. and Edna Moody, and 10 siblings.

Family will receive friends Thursday, June 2, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Bay Minette, AL from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. Funeral services will follow at the church at 2:00 pm with Reverends Robert Heard, Dr. Chip Stearns, and Dr. Henry Cox. Burial will follow at the Bay Minette Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his 6 grandsons: Anthony Greenlee, Andrew Moody, Adam Greenlee, Jonathan Moody, Seth Moody, and Will Heard.  Honorary pallbearers will be the members of his Adult 2 Sunday School Class.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to Gideons International, Baldwin North Camp, P.O. Box 1384, Bay Minette, AL 36507.
