Herbert B. Waters

Herbert B. Waters left his Earthly home in Pine Grove, Alabama on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. He was received into Heaven by his wife, Jean Waters, daughter, Terry Robinson, a great granddaughter, his parents, and several of his siblings.

Herb was born in Gateswood, Alabama on September 29, 1928 to Stanley & Virginia Dare Waters. He was the youngest son of 10 children, and grew up in a house full of love.

Herb will be deeply missed, but his stories, life lessons, and legacy will live on through his sisters, Doll Peterson, Susie Wilder, and Sweet Pea Hinesley; his sons, Rev. Craig Waters of Casper, Wyoming; Mayor Gary Waters of Pelham, Alabama; his "bonus" kids, Chuck Tolbert, Ricky Averitt, and Cindy Elliott; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, multiple step grands and greats, and so many others in his large and loving family. Herb also answered to "Pap", Uncle Herbert, and Brother Herb, and was a father-figure and hero to many.

Herb proudly and courageously served his Country -- first in the Marine Corps at the end of WWII, and then in the U.S. Army, where he served during the Vietnam Conflict and 2 tours in the Korean War. Herb married his life-long love, Jean (Pullen), in December of 1950, and no matter where the Army sent them, Baldwin County always remained the home.

Herb retired honorably from Military Service as a Command Seargent Major on June 1, 1975. He went on to retire from a second career with the U.S. Postal Service. Herb was also a member of the Pine Grove Volunteer Fire Dept., Gateswood Hunting Club, and was the Treasurer and a Decon at Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Services will be held at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Waters and Bro. Grant Dykes officiating. Family will receive visitors on Thursday, July 15, from 4pm - 5pm for family, and from 5pm - 8pm for the community. Funeral services will proceed on Friday, July 16 at 11am at Pine Grove Baptist Church, followed by burial at Hamilton Baptist Church in Gateswood.

Pallbearers: Daniel Arnold, Ben Waters, Mason Waters, Coby Ussery, Andrew Arnold, and Brandon Kernels. Honorary Pallbearers: John Howell, John McDonald, Dalton Crow, Gerald Malone, and Gary Rountree.
