Hazel Plato Hawkins, 100, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024. She was born on March 28, 1924, in Pine Grove, Alabama, and was a devout member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Martin Hawkins, her son, Johnny Bennett Hawkins, and her granddaughter, Ann Denise Graham. Hazel is survived by her brother, Winnall Plato, and her three daughters: Shirley (Frank) Graham, Ginger King, and Betty (Johnny) Franklin. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Ric (Angie) Graham, Matt (Megan) Franklin, Samantha Peacock, Liz (Jason) Kolbe, John (Rachel) Hawkins, and Karen (Randy) Ralston, as well as nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Fannie Plato, and her siblings: James Plato, Orrie Mae Taylor, Bernice Elliott, Lois Hopkins, Herman Plato, Frank Plato, Louise Carnley, Dottie Wilcox, and Major Plato.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Franklin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church.
