The Cabaniss family lost their matriarch, Hazel Turner Cabaniss, on August 24, 2021. This world was fortunate enough to have her for 94 years. We celebrate that she has been reunited with her loving husband Willard “Preacher” Cabaniss, her infant son Samuel “Sammy” Cabaniss, and her son Jerry Cabaniss. She was also preceded in death by her dear sisters Ina Horne, Inez Norsworthy, Ida Ree Williams, Doris Sanders, her brother Roscoe Turner and her parents George and Velma Turner. The loss of her support and companionship will be mourned by her daughter, Linda (Willie) McCaw and her son Thomas (Nita) Cabaniss.
Hazel was happiest when her home was full of family especially her grandchildren, Kim Burkett, Jennifer (Eric) Hastings, Emily (John) Gortemoller, Jeremy (Deanna) Cabaniss, Lauren Cabaniss, Amanda (JT) Thomas, Will (Lisa) Cabaniss, Amanda (Seth) Hartleroad, Jennifer Davis and their children Kristen Burkett, Maggie Burkett, Stefanie (Cody) Truhel, Sydney Hastings, Eric (Ariel) Hastings, Elija (Tiara LeAnne) Hastings, Dillon (Kristen) Cabaniss, Madelyn Gortemoller, Austin Lowe, Nolan Cabaniss, Madeline Sellers, Charlotte Thomas, Hunter Thomas, Ava Cabaniss, Witt Cabaniss, Seth David Hartleroad, Eli Hartleroad, Briana Davis, BJ Davis and Becca Davis. She was honored to live long enough to welcome great-great grandchildren Christopher, Bradley, Eli, and Zoey as well. She lived a long full life with more friends and extended family members than could possibly be mentioned here. But if you were important to Hazel, you definitely knew how she felt about you.
Hazel was a quintessential homemaker creating a warm and welcoming place for her family to reconnect and fill their bellies. Her kind and gentle demeanor made her a loving, safe place for her grandchildren to confide. She loved little dogs, front porch swings, and letting children help in the kitchen. Although her family was large and her life was long, MaMaw Hazel was able to recall details of stories and events right up until the end. She spent a lifetime caring for others and in the end was cared for by so many. We would like to extend our gratitude to Sisters That Care (Denise Jenkins) for the homecare assistance and love that they provided.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Norris Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
