George Ray Smith, age 75, born to George C. and Eunice B. Smith on August 16, 1949 died at his residence in Bay Minette, AL on Friday, April 4, 2025. He was a graduate of Luverne High School, Troy State University and the FBI Academy. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served in Vietnam. He retired as a Captain with Alabama Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Division after 28 years of dedicated service.
George was a member of First Baptist Church and Adult IV men’s Sunday School Class and the Baldwin Baptist Disaster relief team. He loved the Lord, his family and friends
He is survived by his wife Janice Scruggs Smith; one daughter Aimee (Alan) Niesen; one son Rusty Smith; four grandchildren, Keely (William) Douglas, Reed Niesen, Zach Smith and Reagan Niesen; devoted brother-in-law, Donnis Scruggs and devoted niece Carrie Scruggs (Tony) Logan and sisters, Betty Perdue, Gaye Carter and Pat (Paul) Floyd.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Eunice Smith of Luverne AL; sisters Faye Colquitt of Rutledge, AL, Mary Moody of Panama City, FL, Jennifer Smith of Luverne, AL and one brother, Larry Smith of Luverne, AL.
Graveside services and burial will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort with Dr. Chip Starnes and Stan Stabler officiating.
