Elmer "Chuck" Monday

Beloved Father, Coach, and Veteran, Elmer “Chuck” Monday, of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 23, 1948, in Ashford, Alabama, Chuck proudly served his country in the Vietnam War before dedicating his life to shaping young minds and building strong teams as a high school football coach. Over the course of a distinguished coaching career, he served at Early County High School, Dale County High School, and Fairhope High School, where he later retired.

His tenure at Dale County High School was particularly notable—marked by several undefeated regular seasons and consistent playoff appearances. Chuck was known not only for his football knowledge but also for his ability to mentor and inspire generations of student-athletes, instilling values of discipline, perseverance, and integrity.

Chuck was a devoted husband, father, and proud grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Shannon Monday, who was the center of his world; and his four children: Ryan Monday (Lisa), Curt Monday (Lynn), Matt Monday (Cassie), and Abby Wallace (Landon). He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Ryan Thomas and Mason Monday; Courtney, Alexis, and Emily Monday; Austin Vilborg; and Hayden and Rosalynn Wallace. He is also survived by his twin brother, Roy Monday, and brother Robert Monday.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Ralph and Billy Monday, and his sister Hazel Holland.

Chuck will be remembered for his deep love for family, sharp sense of humor, and lifelong commitment to service—both on the field and in his community. Whether coaching under Friday night lights, sharing a meal at Waffle House, or enjoying time with his grandchildren, he brought warmth, wisdom, and strength to every moment.

A passionate Auburn Tigers football fan, Chuck took great joy in cheering on his team every season.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette, Alabama with Dr. Jerry Henry officiating. Burial will follow at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort at 2:00 p.m.

Visitation will take place from 12:00 p.m. until the 1:00 p.m. service at Norris Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
