Doris Evelyn Howell

Doris Evelyn Howell, age 68, born in Scottsburg, IN and a resident of Bay Minette, AL died Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at SAAD’S Hospice in Mobile. She worked in a Tabacco farm in Kentucky, cooked for everyone, drove for the Amish, worked at Mannor Slacks in Bay Minette, was a homemaker and worked in a plastic factory in Indiana. Her favorite things were Westerns, fishing, camping and fruit, especially oranges.

She loved God, her family and her friends. She loved Alex Tyree with all her heart. She loved her church family where she was a member at New Life Baptist Church. Her personality was loving, humorous and sometimes spit and vinegar.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Payton-Whysall of Columbus, OH and Rita Payton-Little of Hebron, KY; one brother, Mike (Sherry) Howell of Auburndale, FL; three sisters, Sherry Shearn of Ashland, PA, Sue (Ron) Carroll of Deputy, IN and Kay (Bruce) Merriam of Scottsburg, IN; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Carol Payton; two brother, John Howell and Roy Howell; a sister, Nancy Howell Baker and her parents, John Arthur and Ethel Louise Bowen Howell.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Sister Helen Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Bryars-McGill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 28, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. service at Norris Funeral Home.
