Daisy Louise Johnson Hughes passed away early Monday morning, June 2, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. She was eighty-six years old.
Louise was born on November 8, 1938, to Manford and Eunice Johnson in Bay Minette, Alabama, and was a longtime resident of Baldwin County. She worked for the Red Cross and as a bank teller and married Gerald Wade Hughes Sr. on August 17, 1957. Louise loved Jesus and her family and enjoyed caring for loved ones. She was instrumental in the development of Palm Lake RV Park (now Johnny’s Lakeside RV Resort).
In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald Wade Hughes Sr.; brother, Warren Johnson; sister, Illene Walker; son, Gerald Wade Hughes Jr.; and great-granddaughter, Evelyn Grace Kubicz. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Hughes and Kristie McLain (Scott); siblings, Rachel Merritt, Eddie Johnson, Susie Smith (Keith), Kelly Johnson, and Shelly Stewart (Philip); grandchildren, Gerald “Jared” Wade Hughes III (Sophia), Jodi Hughes, Jasmyn Kubicz, Matt Pickle (Samantha), Dakota Spann, Mandi Harrison (Brett), Megan Raftery, and Brandon Johnson; great-grandchildren, Mason Monday, Chloe McLain, Ella Harrison, Christian and Nova Pickle, Jackson and Weston Kubicz, and Brantley Spann; as well as several nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held at Crossroads Church (10777 Co. Rd. 138, Bay Minette, Alabama 36507) on Saturday, June 7, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a service immediately following. Louise will be laid to rest beside Gerald at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
