Claude Nix Obituary

Colonel Claude Allen Nix, Sr., age 84, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by family.  He was a caring and devoted husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend.  Allen would soon have added the title of great grandfather to this list in the Spring.  Allen was born in the Pigeon Creek Community of Butler County, Alabama and a long-time resident of Bay Minette, Alabama.  Allen served 39 years in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was additionally a retired civil engineer for the U.S.D.A. Natural Resources and Conservation Department.

Colonel Nix is survived by his wife, Molly Claudette Steele Nix of Bay Minette, Alabama; his children Molly Suzanne Nix (Randal) Barnett of Atmore, Alabama; Claude Allen “Kip” (Debra) Nix, Jr., of Bay Minette, Alabama; one brother, Michael Leon (Airey) Nix of Arley, Alabama; four grandchildren Audrey Nix (Robert) Scholz, Molly Barnett (Corey) Tate, Mattie Nix, and Megan Nix; and a number of beloved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude Herbert Nix, Jr. and Nola Bozeman Nix; a brother, John Perry Nix, and his long time four-legged companion, Chasse.

Many examples of Allen’s woodworking skills will be remembered through the birdhouses, porch swings, and sacramental items he made for the First Methodist Churches of Atmore and Bay Minette.  Allen’s most treasured item to make were the many flag boxes that he made and delivered to area funeral homes to be given to families.

Graveside services and inurnment will be held Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery with Pastor Mike von Kyserling and Craig Mims officiating.

Following the service at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama, the family will welcome friends at their home in Bay Minette.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to The State of Alabama Department of Veteran Affairs, 100 North Union Street, Suite 850, Montgomery, Alabama 3104, or to the North Baldwin Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 190, Bay Minette, Alabama 36507.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Craig Mims, Community Hospice, and Center Well Home Health for the care and grace that was extended to our beloved husband, Daddy, and PawPaw over the last year. Your love and kindness is appreciated the most.
