Charles Pridgeon Obituary

Charles Edward Pridgeon, age 78, born in Monroeville, AL on February 23, 1942 and a resident of Bay Minette, AL died Monday, February 8, 2021 at Mobile Infirmary. He was a graduate of Monroe County High School, earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Livingston University and his Master’s in Education from the University of Montevallo. Charles coached at Marion High School for two years. After which he spent 30 years at Baldwin County High School teaching Alabama History, Consumer Economics and Physical Education. He coached boys and girls basketball, boys and girls golf, varsity football, softball, and served as the first Girls Athletic Director at BCHS.

Charles was an avid fan of the University of Alabama and a huge supporter of girls sports at BCHS. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf and all things in the Bay Minette community.

Charles loved his family and friends, especially the “get along gang” (The Blakes, Hendricksons, Salters and Shivers). This group enjoyed many years of travel and adventures with Charles as the tour guide.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Fran Fassanella Pridgeon of Bay Minette, AL; two daughters, Pam Pridgeon (Tommy) Turk of Pine Grove and Angie Pridgeon Cox of Los Angeles, CA; a granddaughter, Leighanna Brooke Turk of Pine Grove; one brother, Wendell (Lynn) Simmons of Magnolia Springs, AL; two sisters, Sherry (Gary) Dunn of Birmingham AL and Beverly Reeves of Monroeville, AL; sister-in-law, Diane Simmons of Monroeville, AL; his aunt, Inez (Ira) Hall of Hattiesburg, MS and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, A.W. and Lottie Jeter Simmons; his father, Pete Pridgeon; a brother, Albert Grayson Simmons and a son-in-law, Thomas J. Cox, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Chip Starnes officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. service at the First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Baldwin County High School Girls Athletics, 1 Tiger Drive, Bay Minette, AL 36507. Checks can be mailed or dropped off Attention: Tabetha Shell Davis or Elizabeth Shackelford, In Memory of Charles Pridgeon.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Dunn, Andy Simmons, Jeff Reeves, Jeremy Reeves, Stephen Simmons and Michael Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeb Ball, Pete Sellers, Cleveland Robertson, Jack Robertson and Wayne Sellers.
