Charles T. Kerner, III, a long-time resident of Perdido, AL passed away suddenly on February 14, 2020 while visiting family in Virginia. Born August 4, 1948 in New Orleans, LA he is the only child of Charles T. Kerner, Jr. and Louella N. McCurdy.
A proud Marine, he served in Vietnam 1967-68 was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart. Well known locally as an expert deer hunter, he was a member of several Alabama hunting clubs and worked in Illinois as a professional hunting guide. When not hunting he was fishing and Gulf State Park fishing pier was his favorite spot to fish.
He is survived by his sons, Charles T. IV (Karen Long) Kerner of Perdido, AL and Matthew S. (Annie Deal) Kerner of Newport News, VA; five grandchildren Dakota L. Kerner, Matthew M. Kerner and Charles T. Kerner of Newport News, VA, Tate Harris and Connor Harris of Perdido, AL; three sisters, June Kerner of MS, Pam Kerner and Joanne Kerner Olsen; three brothers, Keith Kerner, C.T. Kerner and Tommy Kerner of LA; other family members include Christopher (Michelle Williamson) Harris of Perdido, AL and many niece and nephews. His ex-wife, Lillian Rice Kerner, remained his friends over they years and care for him during his recent illness. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
A memorial service commemorating his life will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home. Following the service, the family will receive guests at Street’s Restaurant.
