Betty Roberts Obituary

Betty Gail Rainey Fisher Roberts, 73, passed away on May 10, 2019 at her home in Bay Minette, AL.

Betty is survived by her husband of 26 years, Ernest Auth Roberts of Bay Minette, AL; her daughter Franchiska Gail Fisher of Ackerman, MS; brother Garland Rainey (Carol) of Wichita Falls, TX; sisters Patricia Hopper (Terry) of Saraland, AL, Carolyn Doyle of Pensacola, FL, Cynthia Doude (Johnny) of McCool, MS, Pamela Rainey of Fairhope, AL, Karen Ferrell Elliott of McCool, MS, and Cheryl Henning of Tupelo, MS. She is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews who lovingly knew her as “Aunt Betty”, as well as many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Percy Garland Rainey, Sr. and Martha Louise Oakes Rainey; an infant brother William Wayne Rainey; her first husband Luther Marvin Fisher, Jr.

Betty was retired from Bay Side Apartments in Bay Minette where she was employed as Property Manager and had received many awards and recognitions for her excellence in her work.  She was an outstanding member of the Civitan Club and had served as President as well as in other official positions.   Betty and Ernie were Charter members of Jubilee Baptist Church in Daphne, AL, where she was a member at the time of her death.  During the first few years of the new church, Betty was often seen capturing its growth with her camera.  Prior to moving to the Mobile area in 1987, Betty had been the manager at Rainey’s Auto Parts in McCool, MS; and was an active member of McCool Baptist Church, where she served many years as a much-loved GA and Youth leader.

In addition to her family and friends, Betty loved spoiling children and traveling.  She also enjoyed listening to the birds, looking at flowers, and watching her cats. Betty loved life, living it to its fullest with lots of laughter, and capturing many of those moments with her camera.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Jubilee Baptist Church in Daphne, AL, with Dr. Paul Matthews officiating.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. until service time there at 11.  Burial will be in the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort, AL.

Pallbearers will be Crys Hopper, Shane Hopper, James Rainey, David Rainey, Johnny Doude, and Chris Shelton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Hopper, Wilbert Henry, and members of the JOY Sunday School Class.
