Bayless Biles, Jr. Obituary

Bayless Edward Biles, Jr. was born in Opelika, Alabama on February 12, 1952.  He was the eldest of 3 children to Dr. Bayless (Bill) Edward Biles, Sr. and Elverna (Vernie) Klinner Biles.

After graduating from Baldwin County High School in 1970, he attended Florida State University for one year on a football scholarship.  He then transferred to Furman University in Greenville, S.C. and played tight end and receiver for the Furman Paladins.  Football was in his blood but he had to choose whether to pursue coaching or law.  He was accepted to Cumberland School of Law in 1974 and graduated Cum Laude in 1977.

In 1977, he and Lynn Jones had their first date. They married in 1978 and were blessed with two sons.  His football years certainly paid off when he began to coach youth football with Bill McInnish as his assistant.   Bayless joined the law firm of Wilkins and Bankester in 1977 and was made partner in 1979.  He and Taylor (Red) Wilkins made a great team.  Bayless’ mother, Vernie, was responsible for his wonderful longtime secretary, Vicki Vickrey, of 38 years, who is still with the law firm.

In 1985 Bayless had the opportunity to argue before the United States Supreme Court, after practicing law for only 8 years; but he accepted the challenge and won his case.  He loved helping others and always had winning on his mind!!

Like his father and brother, he loved animals and was one of the original officers and board members of the North Baldwin Animal Shelter.  At one time there were 6 dogs at home living with Lynn and Bayless, 5 of whom were rescues.  Bayless also loved to travel!  The Biles and Kolb families traveled together touring the United States, Canada, Costa Rica and Italy.

In 2000, Bayless was appointed Municipal Judge for the City of Bay Minette.  Because of his health, he retired in 2015, and he really missed the opportunities to mentor others and help them to better their lives.

Bayless attended First United Methodist Church in Bay Minette. A Celebration of Life will be held there on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.  Visitation and refreshments will follow in the Family Life Center immediately following the service.  Burial at the Bay Minette Cemetery will be 11:30 a.m.
