James Byrd Obituary

Mr. James Fredrick “Rick” Byrd, 68, of Tallahatchie County, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at his residence. He was born November 13, 1950 in Mobile, AL to Claude and Jo Ann McKenzie Byrd. Rick grew up in Bay Minette, AL attended Faulkner State Community College later attended and played football on the football team at Furman University in Greenville, SC. Affectionately known as “Happy”, Rick had spent most of his working life as a contractor and businessman predominately in the Disaster Recovery Industry however he successfully completed many contracts encompassing other specialties within the contracting industry as well. In his spare time he loved watching or attending sports events, hunting and spending time in the outdoors, cooking, reading, coaching and teaching provided it included spending time with loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Thursday, May 16, 2019 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada, MS. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time Thursday at McKibben and Guinn. The committal service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday at Bay Minette Cemetery in Bay Minette, AL.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Warner-Byrd; one daughter, Montana Byrd of Oxford; three sons, Claude Richard “Richy” Byrd of Bay Minette, AL, James Kevin Byrd(Amanda) of Bailey, NC, and Dakota Byrd of Oxford; his father, Claude Byrd of Bay Minette, AL; four brothers, Rev. Ronny Byrd of Myrtle Beach, SC, Rev. Randy Byrd of Monroeville, AL, Rusty Byrd of Grenada and Robby Byrd of Wilson, NC; and seven grandchildren, Hunter James Byrd, Chandler Michael Byrd, Madison Faith Byrd, Gavin Thomas Byrd, Amelia Caitlin Byrd, Emma JoAnn Byrd and Lydia Joyce Byrd.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
