Iria Martin Stewart, age 93, born in Pineview, FL and a resident of the Pine Grove Community, died Sunday, March 10, 2024 at his residence. He was a retired Alabama State Tropper with 25 years of service. He was named Tropper of the year in 1972, a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean War, a member of the Bay Minette Masonic Lodge #498, a member of the ABBA Shrine Center and a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Blackmon of Bay Minette, AL; his son, Martin (Bella) Stewart of Sierra Vista, AZ; grandson, Jonathan (Dawn) Kelley of Bay Minette, AL; a sister, Paulean (Norman) Collins of Winter Haven, FL; two great grandsons, Dillon Anderson and Jacob Kelley; God granddaughter, Marti (Eddie) Ferguson of Pine Grove; God grandchildren, Joseph, Olivia and Victoria Ferguson and his faithful caregiver, Glen Perkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Magge and Taylor Stewart; his wife of 65 years, Ethel Jeanette Morris Stewart; two grandsons, Zach Locklar and Nathan Kelley; six brothers, Jack Stewart, George Stewart, Joe Willard Stewart, Homer Stewart, Rabon Stewart and Clinton Stewart; two sisters, Gutherine Stewart and Earlean Stewart and his son-in-law, Bert Daniel "Danny" Blackmon, III.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Chip Starnes and Reverend Dale Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 15, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mike Holt, Eddie Ferguson, Michael Hyatt, Clay Dyess, Nicholas Hyatt and Joseph Ferguson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Future at First Campaign, P.O. Box 1628, Bay Minette, AL 36507.
